The Patrick School

ELIZABETH, N.J— On Sunday, October 21, 2012, Mayor J. Christian Bollwage joined administration, faculty, staff and alumni of the former St. Patrick’s High School in officially opening their new incarnation, The Patrick School at 547 Morris Avenue.  An Elizabeth institution, St. Pat’s was forced to close at the end of the 2011-2012 school year when their funding was cut by the Archdiocese.  After a restructuring, and the generosity of the community, an independent high school was established to continue providing the rigorous and disciplined quality education for which St. Pat’s was known.

“The St. Pat’s community has been a special part of our city for nearly one-hundred fifty years,” said Mayor Bollwage. “I am thrilled to see that their high-quality education and commitment to students will continue through their transition to an independent entity.”

The completely refurbished campus at 547 Morris Avenue, houses one-hundred fifty students in grades 7-12. It features classrooms dedicated to members of the community, who have had a significant impact on their success including Mayor Bollwage. The plaque on classroom 102 reads: “We dedicate room 102, the US History & American Law room with our sincerest appreciation for his commitment to education and our students. Mayor Bollwage has been a long time friend of St. Patrick’s and now The Patrick School. His determination to see the creation of this school become a reality is greatly appreciated.”

“Mayor Bollwage has always been a great friend and supporter of St. Patrick’s High School & Academy and has continued to support us with our new endeavor — The Patrick School,” said Headmaster Joe Picaro. “The Mayor has been instrumental in making our new facility a reality and we truly appreciate all he has done for us through the years.”

Over one hundred people attended The Patrick School Open House including alumni speaking on behalf of the successful educational foundation the school has consistently provided. One woman from the class of 1947, surrounded by family members, said she was always grateful for her education at St. Pat’s.

Refreshments were served including a cake, which read: “The Patrick School – 149 years in the Making.”  For more information on The Patrick School visit their website at www.thepatrickschool.org.

While the present set way up is impressive – the actual shelf with items with Apple past is truly interesting.
