SCOOP: An off-duty South Plainfield police detective was shot three times outside an Elizabeth men’s club before dawn this morning, law enforcement sources told InsideOut.

What is this?

The 32-year-old officer was in stable condition at University Hospital in Newark after being shot near the Jersey Girls Men’s Club on Bayview Avenue just after the business closed around 2 a.m., authorities said.

The officer, who used to work in Newark, was apparently walking a woman to her car in the shadow of the Goethals Bridge when the shooting occurred, a law enforcement source told InsideOut.

Another man was also struck, the source confirmed. He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital.

Police found several shell casings at the scene.

“The officer is expected to survive, and the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation,” acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park said this afternoon. “Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Park’s office: (908) 418-5800
